Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Albizia species, such as Albizia julibrissin (silk tree) and Albizia lebbeck, have a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Asia. Most commonly, Albizia is used for its calming, mood-elevating, and anxiolytic properties, as well as for treating insomnia, cough, and inflammatory conditions. In some traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) sources, Albizia is included in multi-herb formulations that are sometimes used for a wide range of symptoms, including those related to the digestive system. However, there is limited direct evidence from traditional sources specifically citing Albizia for the treatment of nausea and vomiting. Where such use does appear, it is usually anecdotal or as a minor component within larger formulas aimed at treating emotional or psychosomatic contributors to gastrointestinal distress. There is no scientific evidence in modern research to support the efficacy of Albizia for nausea or vomiting, and no clinical trials have been conducted for this indication. Thus, while there are some traditional references to Albizia being used in broad digestive or calming formulas that might impact nausea, the evidence is weak and almost entirely traditional or theoretical, not scientific.
