Evidence supporting the use of: Agrimonia pilosa
For the health condition: Nephritis
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Agrimonia pilosa has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for various ailments, including kidney-related diseases such as nephritis. In TCM, it is believed to have properties that "clear heat," "stop bleeding," and "remove dampness," which are sometimes associated with kidney health and inflammation. Some traditional texts mention its use for "hematuria" (blood in urine) and other urinary tract issues, which may overlap symptomatically with nephritis. However, robust scientific studies specifically examining the efficacy of Agrimonia pilosa in treating nephritis are lacking. While limited in vitro and animal studies suggest that herbal extracts from Agrimonia pilosa may have anti-inflammatory or antioxidant properties, these have not been directly linked to clinical outcomes in nephritis patients. Therefore, while its use is justified by tradition and historical practice, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support its efficacy for nephritis beyond traditional claims.
