Rating (out of 5): 2

Alchemilla, commonly known as Lady's Mantle, has a long history of traditional use in European herbal medicine, especially for gynecological issues. In folk medicine, it has been used to support women's reproductive health, including the treatment of conditions such as prolapsed uterus, excessive menstrual bleeding, and postpartum recovery. The rationale for its application to prolapsed uterus arises from its reputed astringent and toning effects on pelvic tissues and mucous membranes, believed to help "tighten" and support the uterus and vaginal walls.

Historical herbal texts, such as those by Maud Grieve and in the German tradition of herbalism, reference Alchemilla as beneficial for "uterine displacement" or prolapse, often administered as a tea, sitz bath, or topical wash. The use is based on anecdotal reports and centuries of empirical observation rather than on rigorous clinical studies.

There is a paucity of scientific literature directly investigating Alchemilla's efficacy for prolapsed uterus. While some laboratory studies have identified anti-inflammatory and astringent constituents (such as tannins and flavonoids), these do not directly validate its use for pelvic organ prolapse. Therefore, its use for this condition remains primarily rooted in traditional practice, with limited scientific support beyond general tissue toning and anti-inflammatory effects seen in vitro.
