Bifidobacterium breve is a probiotic bacterium that has been researched for its effects on gut health and immune modulation. There is emerging scientific interest in the role of the gut-skin axis in inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis. Some studies suggest that probiotics, including B. breve, may help reduce systemic inflammation and modulate immune responses, which are both central components of psoriasis pathogenesis. For example, animal model studies have shown that B. breve supplementation can reduce markers of inflammation and may influence Th17/IL-23 pathways, which are implicated in psoriasis. Additionally, a few small clinical studies and case reports in humans have assessed multi-strain probiotic supplements (sometimes including B. breve) for improving psoriasis symptoms, reporting modest benefits in some cases.

However, robust, large-scale randomized controlled trials specifically using B. breve in psoriasis patients are lacking. Most available human data involve multi-strain probiotics rather than B. breve alone, making it difficult to isolate its effects. While the rationale for use is grounded in the immunomodulatory properties of B. breve and preclinical evidence, direct scientific validation for its efficacy in treating or supporting psoriasis is limited. Overall, B. breve is a promising probiotic candidate, but current evidence is preliminary and does not yet justify its widespread use for psoriasis outside of adjunctive support or clinical trials.
