Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Indian Cassia (commonly referring to Cinnamomum cassia or Cassia fistula depending on context) has been used in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine for various skin ailments, including psoriasis. The traditional use is generally based on the plant’s perceived “blood purifying” and anti-inflammatory properties. However, there is a lack of robust scientific studies or clinical trials directly supporting the efficacy of Indian Cassia specifically for psoriasis. Most references to its use for skin diseases are anecdotal or found in historical texts rather than modern research literature. Some in vitro and animal studies have suggested that extracts from Cassia species may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which could theoretically benefit inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis. Nonetheless, these effects have not been conclusively demonstrated in human studies for psoriasis. Therefore, while Indian Cassia is used traditionally for skin conditions, including psoriasis, there is minimal scientific validation to support its effectiveness for this specific indication.
