Himalayan Cedar (Cedrus deodara) has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, particularly in India and neighboring regions. The wood, oil, and extracts of this tree have been used for their supposed anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and skin-soothing properties. Specifically, traditional texts often mention the use of Cedrus deodara oil or paste as a topical agent for various skin ailments, including rashes, itching, and hives (urticaria). The rationale for these uses is based on the belief that the plant’s constituents can help reduce skin irritation and combat microbial infections that may accompany or exacerbate rashes.
However, while there are a few preliminary laboratory studies suggesting antimicrobial and mild anti-inflammatory effects of Cedrus deodara extracts, there is a lack of robust clinical trials or scientific validation for its efficacy in treating rashes and hives in humans.
