Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Jessica's Sticktight is a common name for Bidens pilosa, a plant used in various traditional medicine systems. Its use for treating rashes and hives is primarily based on ethnobotanical and folk practices rather than robust scientific validation. In traditional herbal medicine, especially among indigenous communities in the Americas, Bidens pilosa has been used topically and internally to address skin irritations, including rashes and hives, due to its reputed anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. However, the scientific literature on its efficacy for these specific dermatological conditions is limited. Some preliminary in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated that extracts of Bidens pilosa possess anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, which could theoretically support its historical use for skin ailments. Nevertheless, there are very few controlled human trials, and those that exist do not specifically target rashes or hives. Overall, while tradition supports its use for skin problems, the clinical evidence remains weak, and the effectiveness of Jessica's Sticktight for treating rashes and hives has not been conclusively established in scientific studies.
