Lysimachia, particularly species such as Lysimachia christinae (commonly known as Jin Qian Cao in Traditional Chinese Medicine), has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine. In systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Lysimachia is believed to possess properties that "clear heat," "remove toxins," and "reduce dampness." These concepts are applied to various skin conditions, including rashes and hives (urticaria), which are thought to result from internal heat or toxin accumulation manifesting externally as skin eruptions.

Despite its popularity in folk and traditional medicine for addressing skin conditions, scientific validation supporting Lysimachia’s efficacy specifically for rashes and hives is limited. Most contemporary research focuses on its use for urinary tract disorders, gallstones, or hepatoprotective effects. There are a few in vitro and animal studies suggesting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which could theoretically benefit skin inflammation, but direct studies on its effect on rashes or hives in humans are lacking.

Therefore, while Lysimachia is traditionally used to manage rashes and hives, this use is not robustly supported by modern clinical evidence, and its effectiveness for these conditions remains largely anecdotal and based on historical practice.
