Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Mimosa pudica (also known as the “sensitive plant” or “touch-me-not”) has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and folk medicine across Asia and South America. In these traditions, Mimosa pudica is sometimes applied topically or used internally for a variety of skin conditions, including rashes and hives, owing to its reputed anti-inflammatory, astringent, and wound-healing properties. However, scientific studies specifically examining its effectiveness for rashes and hives in humans are lacking. While some laboratory and animal studies suggest anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial actions of Mimosa pudica extracts, these are not directly linked to clinical outcomes for rashes or urticaria (hives) in people. Thus, its use for these skin conditions is primarily supported by traditional practices rather than robust scientific evidence. More clinical research is needed to establish safety and efficacy for these specific indications.
