Sapindus mukorossi, commonly known as soapnut or reetha, is widely used in traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayurveda and various folk traditions in India and Southeast Asia. Historically, it has been used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including rashes and hives. The fruit contains saponins, which are natural surfactants, and its extracts have been applied topically for their purported cleansing, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Ethnobotanical literature documents its use as a natural remedy to soothe irritated skin, reduce itching, and manage minor dermatological complaints.
