Casticin is a flavonoid compound found in the fruits of Vitex agnus-castus (chaste tree), a plant traditionally used in herbal medicine, especially in Europe and Asia, to support female reproductive health. Historical records and ethnobotanical use indicate that extracts of Vitex agnus-castus have been used to alleviate symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menstrual irregularities, and to support overall reproductive function. Casticin is considered one of the active constituents in this plant and is thought to contribute to its effects by modulating dopaminergic activity, which in turn can influence prolactin secretion and thereby affect menstrual cycles.
