Evidence supporting the use of: Fish roe oil
For the body system: Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 3
Fish roe oil, like fish oil, is rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly EPA and DHA. These nutrients have well-documented roles in supporting general health, and emerging research suggests specific benefits for reproductive health. Scientific studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids can improve sperm quality parameters (such as motility and morphology) in men and may support oocyte (egg) quality and overall fertility in women. The mechanisms proposed include reduction of inflammation, support of hormone production, and improvement of blood flow to reproductive organs.
A few clinical studies and systematic reviews have examined fish oil supplementation (often including fish roe oil) and found positive effects on certain markers of reproductive health, although data are not yet robust or wholly consistent. Fish roe oil may also contain phospholipids and antioxidants that could offer additional benefits, but most research focuses on omega-3 content.
While traditional systems do not specifically cite fish roe oil for reproductive health, the current scientific evidence provides a moderate level of support for its use in this area. However, more large-scale, well-controlled human studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and clarify optimal dosing for reproductive health support.
