Cubebs (Piper cubeba), also known as tailed pepper, have a long history of traditional use in various systems of medicine, particularly in Ayurveda, Unani, and traditional Chinese medicine. Traditionally, cubebs have been used for their expectorant and decongestant properties, which are believed to support the respiratory tract, including the sinuses. The aromatic and pungent qualities of cubebs are thought to help clear nasal congestion and promote easier breathing. Historical texts and ethnobotanical records often mention cubebs as a remedy for catarrh, coughs, and other upper respiratory complaints.

However, there is limited scientific research directly validating the efficacy of cubebs for sinus support. Most available evidence is anecdotal or based on traditional formulations. Modern clinical studies are lacking, and while cubebs do contain compounds such as essential oils (e.g., cubebin, cubebol, and cineole) that could potentially have anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial properties, these effects have not been robustly studied in the context of sinus health. Therefore, the use of cubebs to support the sinuses is primarily justified by traditional usage rather than contemporary scientific evidence.
