Evidence supporting the use of: Heal-all
For the body system: Sinuses
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Heal-All (Prunella vulgaris), also known as self-heal, has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine for a variety of ailments, including support for the respiratory system and, by extension, the sinuses. In traditional European and Asian herbal practices, Heal-All was used for treating sore throats, mouth ulcers, and inflammation, which are sometimes associated with sinus complaints. The plant contains bioactive compounds such as rosmarinic acid, flavonoids, and tannins that are thought to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. However, while these constituents suggest a theoretical benefit for issues involving sinus inflammation or infection, there is limited direct scientific research specifically evaluating the efficacy of Heal-All for sinus health or sinusitis. Most modern studies focus on its general anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects rather than its action on the sinuses in particular. Thus, its use for sinus support is rooted primarily in traditional herbal applications rather than robust clinical evidence. The strength of evidence for Heal-All’s use in supporting the sinuses is therefore quite low, and more research would be needed to validate this traditional use in a modern clinical context.
