Evidence supporting the use of: Balloon Pea
For the health condition: Skin Care (general)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Balloon Pea (Cardiospermum halicacabum) has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly within Ayurveda and other folk medicine systems. In these practices, Balloon Pea extracts have been applied topically for skin care, especially for soothing inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and pruritus. The plant is believed to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and soothing properties, making it a popular ingredient in herbal ointments and creams aimed at relieving skin irritation. However, while these traditional uses are well-documented, rigorous scientific studies validating its efficacy for general skin care are limited. A few preliminary studies and small clinical trials suggest that topical formulations containing Cardiospermum halicacabum may help alleviate symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions, but these findings are not robust enough to constitute strong scientific validation. Most of the supporting evidence remains anecdotal or based on historical use rather than large, controlled clinical trials. Therefore, the use of Balloon Pea in skin care is primarily justified by traditional knowledge, with a moderate but not strong level of supporting evidence.
