Evidence supporting the use of: David's Milkberry
For the health condition: Skin Care (general)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
David's Milkberry (also known as Chiococca alba or "David's Milkberry") has a limited history of use in traditional medicine for various conditions, but its application in general skin care is primarily founded on folk or traditional practices rather than scientific validation. In some cultures, especially in the Caribbean and parts of Central and South America, preparations from the roots and berries of this plant have been used topically to treat minor skin ailments, such as rashes or irritation. However, there are very few detailed records or ethnobotanical studies documenting its efficacy or specific mechanisms for skin health. Furthermore, there is a lack of clinical or laboratory research substantiating the benefits of David's Milkberry for skin care. The plant does contain some saponins and other phytochemicals that could theoretically have soothing or cleansing properties, but these have not been rigorously studied in the context of dermatology. Overall, while traditional use exists, the evidence base is weak and insufficient to support its widespread use for skin care.
