Evidence supporting the use of: Argan nut oil
For the health condition: Skin (dry and/or flaky)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 4
Argan nut oil is supported by scientific evidence for its use in treating or supporting dry and/or flaky skin. Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of argan oil in improving skin hydration and elasticity. Argan oil is rich in essential fatty acids, particularly linoleic and oleic acids, as well as vitamin E (tocopherol), which are known to help maintain the skin barrier and retain moisture. In a randomized controlled trial published in "Clinical Interventions in Aging" (2015), topical application of argan oil significantly improved skin hydration and elasticity in postmenopausal women. Other research has shown that argan oil exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, further supporting its role in skin health and repair.
In addition to scientific research, the traditional use of argan oil by Moroccan communities for skin and hair care provides ethnobotanical background. However, the rating here is driven primarily by scientific studies that confirm the oil's moisturizing and restorative effects. Overall, while not all mechanisms are fully elucidated, current evidence supports the use of argan nut oil as an effective natural treatment for dry or flaky skin.
