Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has a long history of use in traditional medicine, especially in European and Native American herbalism. It has been used to address a variety of digestive complaints, including support for the small intestine. Traditional uses include promoting digestion, alleviating spasms, and reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Herbalists have historically brewed yarrow as a tea or tincture to relieve symptoms such as indigestion, mild gastrointestinal discomfort, and to stimulate appetite. The plant is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and astringent properties, which could theoretically benefit the small intestine by soothing mucous membranes and improving digestive function.

However, while traditional claims are plentiful, modern scientific studies specifically linking yarrow’s effects to direct support of small intestine function are limited. Most available research focuses on yarrow’s general anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, with only indirect implications for gastrointestinal health. There is some evidence of its use in managing symptoms like colic or mild GI irritation in animal models or cell studies, but human clinical data are sparse.
