Ligusticum, particularly species such as Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), is traditionally used in Chinese medicine to support the Spleen body system. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Spleen is understood as a key organ in digestion, transformation, and transportation of nutrients, rather than corresponding directly to the anatomical spleen. Ligusticum chuanxiong is most commonly known for its use in promoting blood circulation and dispelling wind to relieve pain, but it is also included in some TCM formulas aimed at supporting Spleen function, especially when Spleen Qi deficiency leads to blood stasis or when addressing issues of poor appetite and fatigue. The use for Spleen health is derived from centuries of empirical practice and TCM theory rather than modern pharmacological studies.
