Sedum erythrostictum, also known as "stonecrop," has a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where it is referred to as "Jing Tian Cao." In TCM, Sedum erythrostictum is believed to "tonify the Spleen" and "clear heat," and is traditionally used for symptoms such as fatigue, poor digestion, and general weakness—conditions associated with Spleen deficiency syndromes in TCM theory. The Spleen in TCM is not a direct anatomical correlate to the Western spleen, but is considered central to digestion, nutrient assimilation, and energy production.

However, while traditional texts and herbal compendia describe these uses, there is little high-quality scientific research validating the specific action of Sedum erythrostictum in supporting Spleen function as defined by TCM or Western medicine. Most available studies focus on its general anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective properties, with some limited animal experiments suggesting immunomodulatory effects. Human clinical trials are scarce or nonexistent for this specific application. Thus, the use of Sedum erythrostictum to support the Spleen body system is primarily justified by traditional usage, with limited preliminary scientific evidence and no robust clinical validation.
