Olive (Olea europaea), particularly olive oil, has a long history of use in traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern medicine for supporting digestive health and the stomach. Historical texts and folk remedies often recommend olive oil as a gentle laxative, a soother of gastric mucosa, and a means to ease symptoms of gastritis or dyspepsia. The traditional rationale is largely based on olive oil’s lubricating effects and its content of monounsaturated fats, which are thought to be less irritating to the stomach lining than saturated fats.

Scientific studies specifically addressing olive or olive oil for "stomach support" are limited. Some modern research suggests that extra virgin olive oil may help protect the gastric mucosa from oxidative stress and may have mild anti-inflammatory effects, but these findings are generally preliminary and not conclusive for specific stomach disorders. Olive leaf extract, rich in polyphenols, has been studied for antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, but direct benefits to the stomach are not well-established.
