Jujubosides are saponin compounds extracted from the seeds of Ziziphus jujuba (jujube), which have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to address symptoms related to stress, insomnia, and anxiety. The use of jujube seed preparations for calming the mind and promoting restful sleep is well documented in classical herbal texts such as the "Shennong Bencao Jing" and remains common in modern Chinese herbal formulas. While preclinical studies have indicated that jujubosides may exert sedative, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective effects—possibly through modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission—the clinical evidence in humans is limited. Few well-controlled, large-scale clinical trials have been conducted to directly assess the efficacy of jujubosides or jujube seed extracts for stress reduction. Most available data are derived from animal studies or small pilot trials. Thus, while the traditional use for stress and related conditions is robust, and there is some preliminary scientific rationale, the evidence supporting its effectiveness is not strong by modern clinical research standards. Continued research, especially human clinical trials, would be needed to elevate the evidence rating and fully validate its use for stress management.
