Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) is sometimes suggested as a dietary support for stress due to its nutrient content, although the evidence base is modest. Spinach is rich in magnesium, folate, and antioxidants, nutrients that have recognized roles in supporting overall health and potentially influencing the body's stress response. Magnesium, in particular, is associated with regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and neurotransmitter function, both of which are involved in stress response. Some studies have found that individuals with low magnesium intake may experience higher levels of perceived stress, and supplementation can help reduce stress symptoms in deficient individuals. Spinach, as a good source of magnesium, could therefore support stress management indirectly in the context of a balanced diet.

However, the direct evidence for spinach itself as a treatment or specific intervention for stress is limited. Most clinical studies focus on isolated nutrients rather than on spinach consumption per se. There is also a lack of large-scale human trials specifically evaluating spinach for stress reduction. While some rodent studies have explored the adaptogenic and antioxidant effects of spinach extracts, results are preliminary and not directly translatable to clinical recommendations.
