Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 5

Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is scientifically validated as a key nutrient supporting the structural system, particularly bone health. Vitamin D2, along with Vitamin D3, helps maintain calcium and phosphorus balance in the body, which is essential for the development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Numerous clinical studies have shown that deficiency in Vitamin D leads to bone disorders such as rickets in children and osteomalacia or osteoporosis in adults. Supplementation with Vitamin D2 has been proven to improve bone mineral density and reduce the risk of fractures, especially in populations at risk for deficiency. Although Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is generally considered more effective at raising serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels, Vitamin D2 is still used in supplementation and prescription treatments for preventing and treating deficiencies. The use of Vitamin D2 to support the structural system is endorsed by organizations such as the Institute of Medicine and the Endocrine Society. Overall, there is robust scientific evidence supporting the use of Vitamin D2 for maintaining the integrity and function of the structural system, especially bones.
