Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 3

Milk Basic Protein (MBP) is a fraction of milk proteins that has been investigated for its effects on bone and dental health. Scientific studies have demonstrated that MBP may help promote bone formation and suppress bone resorption, primarily by stimulating osteoblast activity and inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone breakdown. While most research has focused on bone metabolism and osteoporosis prevention, some studies have extended these findings to dental health, as the teeth and alveolar bone (the bone supporting the teeth) share similar remodeling processes.

MBP’s potential benefit for the teeth body system is based on its ability to enhance mineralization and support the maintenance of healthy alveolar bone, which is crucial for tooth stability. A few human and animal studies suggest that MBP supplementation can help reduce bone loss in the jaw and improve periodontal outcomes, particularly in populations at risk for bone loss, such as postmenopausal women.

However, while there is promising scientific evidence, the body of research specifically addressing the direct effects of MBP on dental health is still limited compared to bone health. Thus, the evidence supporting MBP for teeth and oral bone support rates as moderate and emerging, but not yet conclusive. Overall, MBP is used for its scientifically supported effects on bone, which by extension may benefit dental health, but more targeted research is needed for definitive validation.
