Black galingale (Kaempferia parviflora), also called Thai black ginger, is traditionally used in Southeast Asia as a tonic for male vitality and sexual health. In recent years, several scientific studies have investigated its effects on testosterone and related body systems. Preclinical research in animal models has shown that extracts of black galingale may increase serum testosterone levels, improve sperm quality, and enhance sexual behavior. Some human studies, though generally small and of short duration, have reported improvements in erectile function, physical performance, and subjective measures of vitality following supplementation.

The proposed mechanisms of action include inhibition of phosphodiesterase enzymes, improved blood flow, and modulation of steroidogenic pathways. Certain polymethoxyflavones unique to black galingale are believed to contribute to these effects. However, evidence in humans is still limited and often involves proprietary extracts or combinations with other ingredients. While the use of black galingale for testosterone and male health is rooted in tradition, current scientific studies—though promising—are preliminary and do not yet provide robust, high-quality evidence for efficacy. Larger, well-controlled clinical trials are warranted to validate its role in supporting testosterone and related aspects of male health.
