The rationale for its use is primarily based on historical practices and anecdotal reports rather than robust scientific evidence. Animal studies have sometimes suggested an increase in testosterone following Tribulus supplementation, likely due to its saponin content, particularly protodioscin. However, most well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a significant effect on testosterone levels in healthy men or those with diagnosed low testosterone. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses consistently report limited and inconsistent findings, with some studies showing minimal or no benefit.
