Black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora) has garnered interest for its potential metabolic benefits, including effects on lipid metabolism and triglyceride levels. The scientific evidence supporting its use for high triglycerides is preliminary, with a small but growing body of research mainly from animal studies and a few human clinical trials. The rhizome contains polymethoxyflavones, which are thought to exert antioxidant and metabolic effects. In rodent studies, black ginger extracts have demonstrated the ability to improve lipid profiles by lowering serum triglyceride levels and modulating enzymes involved in fat metabolism. For example, a study in rats fed a high-fat diet found that supplementation with black ginger extract led to significantly reduced triglyceride concentrations compared to controls.

Human evidence is limited and less conclusive. A small pilot study in overweight men suggested a reduction in body fat and slight improvements in triglyceride levels after supplementation, but these results have not been widely replicated or confirmed in larger, well-controlled trials. Proposed mechanisms include enhancement of energy expenditure, improved insulin sensitivity, and upregulation of lipid metabolism genes.

Overall, while there is some scientific rationale and early data suggesting black ginger may help manage triglyceride levels, the current quality and quantity of human evidence are insufficient for strong recommendations. Larger, high-quality clinical trials are needed to validate these effects and determine appropriate dosing and safety. As such, the evidence rating is modest at present.
