Salba oil is derived from Salvia hispanica L., commonly known as chia. Some scientific studies have investigated the effects of chia seeds and chia oil (including Salba oil) on cardiovascular risk factors, including triglyceride levels. A small number of randomized controlled trials have examined the impact of chia or Salba supplementation on lipid profiles. The evidence is mixed: while some studies report modest reductions in triglyceride levels, others find no significant effect. For example, one randomized controlled trial found that Salba seed supplementation did not significantly affect triglyceride concentrations in individuals with well-controlled type 2 diabetes. Another small study found potential improvements in other cardiovascular risk factors (such as blood pressure), but not consistent changes in triglycerides.

The mechanism by which Salba oil might affect triglycerides is thought to be related to its high content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid. Omega-3s have demonstrated triglyceride-lowering effects in other contexts, but the ALA form (from plants) is generally considered less potent than the EPA and DHA forms found in fish oils.

In summary, there is some scientific interest and a small body of clinical research on Salba oil and triglycerides, but the evidence is not robust or consistent enough to strongly support its use for treating high triglycerides. More large-scale, well-controlled studies are needed.
