Vine tea, also known as Ampelopsis grossedentata, is traditionally consumed in parts of China and Southeast Asia. Its main bioactive component is dihydromyricetin (DHM), a flavonoid with antioxidant properties. Recent scientific studies have investigated its effects on lipid metabolism, including triglycerides. Small-scale animal studies and limited human trials suggest that vine tea extract may help lower serum triglycerides by reducing lipid absorption, enhancing lipid metabolism, and improving antioxidant status. For instance, some animal models have shown reduced triglyceride levels after administration of DHM, likely through modulation of genes involved in lipid synthesis and breakdown. A few preliminary human studies have reported modest triglyceride-lowering effects in individuals with metabolic syndrome or hyperlipidemia, but these studies are generally limited by small sample sizes and short durations.

However, robust evidence from large, high-quality randomized controlled trials in humans is lacking. While the mechanistic rationale and some preclinical data are promising, the current scientific support for vine tea as a treatment for high triglycerides remains limited. More rigorous research is needed to confirm efficacy, optimal dosage, and safety in broader populations.
