Flower pollen (also known as bee pollen) has a history of traditional use in various cultures as a health tonic and remedy for a range of ailments, including digestive issues and ulcers. The theoretical basis for its use in ulcers comes from the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, vitamins, and amino acids, which are thought to provide anti-inflammatory and mucosal-protective effects. Some early Eastern European and Chinese herbal traditions have included flower pollen in remedies for gastrointestinal discomfort, with anecdotal reports suggesting symptom improvement. However, scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of flower pollen for ulcer healing is limited. A small number of animal studies have indicated that bee pollen may reduce gastric lesion formation and oxidative stress in experimentally induced ulcers. For example, a 2016 study in rats found that bee pollen supplementation had a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Nonetheless, these findings have not been robustly replicated in human clinical trials, and there is a lack of high-quality, peer-reviewed human studies directly evaluating flower pollen for peptic or gastric ulcer treatment. Overall, while flower pollen is traditionally used in some herbal medicine systems for digestive support, its application for ulcers is not strongly validated by modern science.
