Dipsacus, commonly known as teasel, is a genus of plants used in traditional medicine, particularly in Chinese herbal medicine where Dipsacus asper and Dipsacus fullonum are most noted. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Dipsacus (Xu Duan) is used primarily to "tonify the liver and kidneys," strengthen bones and tendons, and promote healing of fractures. Its use for the urinary system is not as prominent, but some traditional systems have used it for conditions that may overlap with urinary health, such as promoting diuresis or treating lower back pain (sometimes associated with kidney deficiency in TCM).
