Agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly in Europe and Asia, where it has been employed to address a variety of ailments, including mild urinary tract disorders. Folk medicine texts often mention agrimony tea or infusions as a remedy for urinary tract irritation, likely due to its reputed astringent, anti-inflammatory, and mild diuretic properties. These effects have been attributed to the presence of tannins, flavonoids, and other polyphenolic compounds found in the aerial parts of the plant.

However, while traditional usage is well documented, scientific evidence supporting agrimony’s effectiveness for urinary tract infections (UTIs) is limited. There are a few in vitro studies that demonstrate antimicrobial properties of agrimony extracts against certain bacteria, but these are not specific to the primary pathogens involved in UTIs (e.g., Escherichia coli). Furthermore, no robust clinical trials have been conducted to confirm agrimony's efficacy or safety for treating or preventing UTIs in humans. As such, while agrimony remains a popular traditional remedy, its use for UTIs is not validated by strong scientific research at this time.
