Evidence supporting the use of: Isoflavones
For the body system: Uterus
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Isoflavones, primarily found in soy products, have been traditionally used in various cultures, especially in East Asia, to support women's reproductive health. These phytoestrogens are believed to mimic estrogen in the body and, thus, are thought to help with menstrual and menopausal symptoms. Historically, diets rich in soy have been associated with reduced incidence of menopausal symptoms, which has led to the belief that isoflavones may support the uterus and overall female reproductive system.
However, direct scientific evidence specifically supporting the use of isoflavones for uterine health is limited. Most studies focus on their effects for menopausal symptom relief (e.g., hot flashes) and not on direct uterine benefits. Some preclinical research suggests isoflavones may modulate uterine tissue response due to their weak estrogenic activity, but robust clinical evidence is lacking. As such, their use for uterine support is mostly rooted in tradition rather than strong scientific validation.
