Asoka (Saraca asoca) is a well-known herb in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, especially for supporting the female reproductive system, including the vagina and uterus. Historical Ayurvedic texts such as Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita describe Asoka as an effective remedy for various gynecological disorders, particularly those involving abnormal vaginal bleeding (menorrhagia), leucorrhea, and dysmenorrhea. It is often used in formulations for supporting menstrual health and toning the uterine muscles. The bark of the Asoka tree is the part most commonly used, and it is believed to have astringent, uterotonic, and anti-inflammatory effects that contribute to vaginal and reproductive health.

Modern scientific studies on Asoka are limited but do suggest some pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and mild estrogenic effects, which could partially explain its traditional use. However, the majority of evidence is anecdotal or based on traditional practice rather than rigorously controlled clinical trials. Thus, its use for vaginal and broader female reproductive support is primarily justified by a long-standing tradition in Ayurveda with moderate observational and pharmacological support, but lacking strong scientific validation.
