GW501516, also known as Cardarine, is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARδ) agonist that has been studied primarily for its effects on lipid metabolism and energy expenditure. Scientific studies in animal models and a limited number of human trials indicate that GW501516 can enhance fatty acid oxidation and increase the body's ability to use fat as an energy source, which theoretically supports weight loss and improved endurance. For example, a 2004 study in Cell Metabolism showed that mice treated with GW501516 had increased running endurance and a shift towards fat metabolism.1 However, robust clinical trials in humans for weight loss are lacking. While some early-phase studies suggested improvements in HDL cholesterol and insulin sensitivity, safety concerns halted further development, as long-term animal studies revealed a strong association with cancer development.2 GW501516 is not approved for human use by regulatory agencies like the FDA, and its use is banned by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). In summary, while there is scientific rationale based on animal studies and limited human data that GW501516 may support weight loss through enhanced fat oxidation, the evidence remains preliminary and is outweighed by serious safety concerns.
