Guayusa (Ilex guayusa) is a plant native to the Amazon rainforest and has been traditionally used by indigenous peoples, particularly in Ecuador, for its stimulating and energizing effects. The leaves of guayusa are brewed into a tea that contains caffeine, theobromine, and other bioactive compounds. Traditionally, guayusa has not been specifically used to treat "worry" as a medical or psychological condition. However, its use as a morning beverage is often associated with promoting alertness, mental clarity, and a sense of well-being, which may indirectly reduce feelings of worry or anxiety for some users. The ritual of sharing guayusa tea, often in communal or early morning gatherings, is also considered to have social and psychological benefits, providing space for reflection and conversation, which can alleviate worry in a cultural context.

There is little scientific research directly linking guayusa to the treatment of anxiety or worry. Most available data focus on its stimulant properties due to caffeine content, which can, in sensitive individuals, actually increase anxiety. However, because it contains theobromine (similar to compounds found in chocolate), which can have calming cardiovascular effects, some believe it may balance the overall stimulating effect. Overall, while guayusa is used traditionally for general well-being and energy, its use specifically for treating worry is based more on cultural practice than on scientific validation.
