Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Walnuts (Juglans regia) have a history of use in traditional medicine for promoting skin health, with some traditional systems attributing anti-aging or skin-rejuvenating properties to them. The use of walnut oil and walnut extracts for skin care, including as a potential remedy for wrinkles, primarily arises from their rich content of fatty acids, vitamin E, and polyphenolic compounds—substances believed to nourish the skin and combat oxidative stress. However, while these traditional uses exist, the evidence supporting the efficacy of walnuts specifically for treating or preventing wrinkles is limited. There are few if any controlled clinical studies directly evaluating walnut-based treatments for wrinkles in humans. Some laboratory studies suggest antioxidants and certain nutrients found in walnuts may help protect skin cells from oxidative damage, a key factor in skin aging, but such findings do not directly translate into proven anti-wrinkle effects in vivo. Thus, while walnuts have a plausible biochemical rationale and a traditional reputation for supporting skin health, there is little robust scientific validation for their use specifically against wrinkles.
