Calcium Magnesium Zinc | Complete Mineral Guide

Discover the science behind Calcium magnesium Zinc supplementation. Learn how Zinc supports immune health, prostate function, and fertility with OptiZinc®.

Essential Minerals

Understanding Calcium Magnesium Zinc

Calcium magnesium Zinc refers to a foundational combination of essential minerals that the human body requires for hundreds of biological processes. Zinc alone is a cofactor for more than 300 enzymes and is found in virtually every cell, making it the second most abundant trace mineral in the body after iron. Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the human body, is critical for skeletal integrity, muscle contraction, and nerve signaling.

This product delivers Zinc in the premium OptiZinc® form — a patented 1:1 complex of Zinc and the amino acid methionine. OptiZinc® is the only high-potency Zinc supplement approved by the FDA as safe for human nutrition. Studies show that OptiZinc® is absorbed better, retained longer, and is more effective than ordinary Zinc supplements tested. It also resists binding with dietary fiber and phytate — organic compounds that commonly inhibit Zinc absorption.

Unlike other Zinc supplements, OptiZinc® will not cause anemia by removing iron from cells. Each tablet provides 20 mg of OptiZinc® Zinc, supporting immune system function, prostate health, and male fertility.

How It Works

Why Calcium Magnesium Zinc Matters for Your Health

Zinc is central to the proper functioning of more than 300 enzymes spanning all six enzyme classes, meaning it participates in virtually every metabolic process — from protein synthesis and DNA replication to energy metabolism and antioxidant defense. At the cellular level, Zinc ions form structural motifs known as "Zinc fingers" that enable transcription factors to bind DNA, regulating gene expression throughout the body.

One of Zinc's most thoroughly studied roles is in immune regulation. Research has established that Zinc deficiency compromises virtually all aspects of innate and adaptive immunity — altering the number and function of neutrophils, monocytes, natural killer cells, and T and B cells. Zinc supplementation has been shown to support immune system function, helping the body maintain its defenses against colds and upper respiratory challenges.

Calcium supports the skeletal system, where more than 99% of the body's Calcium is stored as hydroxyapatite in bone. Beyond structural support, Calcium is essential for muscle contraction, neurotransmission, and hormonal signaling. It acts as a universal second messenger inside cells, mediating processes from heartbeat regulation to synaptic activity in the brain.

The dicalcium phosphate in this formula provides Calcium that supports these fundamental physiological processes. Together, the Calcium magnesium Zinc mineral profile addresses multiple body systems simultaneously — from skeletal integrity and immune defense to reproductive health.

What's inside

Key Ingredients

Zinc (as mono-methionine) — 20 mg
Zinc is an essential trace mineral required for the activity of more than 300 enzymes and is incorporated into approximately 10% of all human proteins. This formula uses OptiZinc®, a patented 1:1 complex of Zinc and the naturally occurring amino acid methionine, which research shows is absorbed better and retained longer than ordinary Zinc forms. OptiZinc® also resists binding with dietary fiber and phytate, compounds that commonly inhibit Zinc absorption. Zinc plays extensively documented roles across multiple body systems. For immune health, research confirms that Zinc deficiency impairs the development and activity of neutrophils, NK cells, T cells, and B cells, and multiple RCTs and meta-analyses show that Zinc supplementation modulates immune biomarkers and, in certain formulations and doses, may reduce the duration of upper respiratory infections by approximately 33%. Zinc is uniquely concentrated in normal prostate tissue — the highest of any soft tissue — and studies show that BPH and prostate cancer tissue have significantly lower Zinc levels. A 2019 nutraceutical review cited clinical evidence for Zinc in BPH symptom management, and Zinc regulates 5α-reductase activity while promoting apoptosis of prostate epithelial cells. For male fertility, Zinc is the most extensively studied micronutrient: a meta-analysis in Scientific Reports found Zinc supplementation significantly improved semen volume, sperm motility, and normal morphology in infertile males, and Zinc plays direct roles in spermatogenesis, sperm chromatin stability, and testosterone biosynthesis in Leydig cells. Zinc deficiency is consistently linked to reduced testosterone levels, and supplementation in deficient individuals has been shown to restore testosterone to normal levels. The mineral also supports wound healing, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties modulating all phases of the repair process, and contributes to proper growth and development, neurological function, and the senses of taste and smell.
Dicalcium Phosphate
Dicalcium phosphate provides Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the human body. More than 99% of the body's Calcium is stored in bone as hydroxyapatite, providing skeletal strength and serving as a reservoir for Calcium to be released into serum as needed. Calcium is widely involved in cell signaling, acting as a second messenger that regulates muscle contraction, neurotransmission, hormonal secretion, and cellular growth. In nerve cells, Calcium ions stabilize membrane potential and control neuronal excitability, while in cardiac muscle, Calcium influx triggers the synchronized contractions essential for heart function. Calcium participates in the parathyroid-vitamin D-calcitonin hormonal axis that tightly regulates mineral balance throughout life. The Institute of Medicine established Recommended Dietary Allowances for Calcium ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 mg per day for adults, with requirements increasing for women over 50 and all adults over 70. Approximately 43% of the US population uses dietary supplements that contain Calcium.

Who Benefits from Calcium Magnesium Zinc

This Zinc supplement may be particularly beneficial for men seeking support for prostate health, fertility, and testosterone production. Research shows that the hormone testosterone requires Zinc for its production, and symptoms resulting from an enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) may be supported with additional Zinc intake. Zinc is also concentrated in seminal plasma, where it plays direct roles in spermatogenesis and sperm quality.

Individuals looking to support their immune system may also benefit, as people who are deficient in Zinc are more susceptible to infections. Research suggests that Zinc supplementation may help support immune function and the body's natural defenses during cold and flu season.

Individuals facing surgery may find Calcium magnesium Zinc supplementation valuable, as studies show that taking sufficient Zinc, vitamin A, and vitamin C before and after surgery may help support the wound healing process.

Certain populations are at greater risk for Zinc deficiency and may particularly benefit from supplementation: people who have had gastrointestinal surgery such as weight loss surgery, those with digestive disorders like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, vegetarians (whose plant-based diets are higher in phytate, which inhibits Zinc absorption), and older adults — research indicates 35%–45% of adults aged 60 or older have Zinc intakes below the estimated average requirement.

Usage Guide

How to Take Calcium Magnesium Zinc

Take one (1) tablet daily with meals. Store in a cool, dry place and away from direct light.

Each tablet provides 20 mg of OptiZinc® Zinc. The Recommended Dietary Allowance for Zinc is 11 mg/day for adult men and 8 mg/day for adult women. The Tolerable Upper Intake Level for Zinc in adults is 40 mg/day.

This product is gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and grain free.

Taking Zinc supplements at the same time as supplements containing a substantial amount of iron (≥25 mg) may reduce Zinc absorption. If you take quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics, take the antibiotic at least 2 hours before, or 4 to 6 hours after, taking a Zinc supplement to avoid interaction.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What makes OptiZinc® different from other forms of Zinc?

OptiZinc® is a patented 1:1 complex of Zinc and the amino acid methionine — the amino acid that is best absorbed by the body. It is the only high-potency Zinc supplement approved by the FDA as safe for human nutrition. Studies show that OptiZinc® is absorbed better, retained longer, and is more effective than ordinary Zinc supplements tested. It also resists binding with dietary fiber and phytate, organic compounds that commonly inhibit Zinc absorption. Unlike other Zinc supplements, OptiZinc® will not cause anemia by removing iron from cells.

How does Zinc support the immune system?

Zinc is essential for virtually all aspects of innate and adaptive immunity. Deficiency alters the number and function of neutrophils, monocytes, natural killer cells, T cells, and B cells. Multiple RCTs and meta-analyses confirm that Zinc supplementation modulates immune biomarkers. Research also shows that Zinc supplementation may help support immune function and the body's defenses against colds and upper respiratory challenges.

Can Zinc support prostate health?

The healthy prostate accumulates the highest concentration of Zinc of any soft tissue in the body. Studies show that BPH and prostate cancer tissue have significantly lower Zinc levels than normal tissue. Zinc regulates Zinc transporters and supports apoptosis in prostate cells, and a 2019 nutraceutical review cited clinical evidence for Zinc's role in BPH symptom management. Symptoms resulting from an enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) may be supported with additional Zinc.

Is Zinc beneficial for male fertility and testosterone?

Zinc is the most extensively studied micronutrient for male fertility. A meta-analysis found that Zinc supplementation significantly improved semen volume, sperm motility, and normal morphology in infertile males. Zinc deficiency is directly associated with hypogonadism, and supplementation in deficient individuals has been shown to restore testosterone levels. The mineral plays direct roles in spermatogenesis, sperm chromatin stability, and testosterone biosynthesis in Leydig cells.

Who is most at risk for Zinc deficiency?

Certain groups may have trouble getting enough Zinc, including people who have had gastrointestinal surgery (such as weight loss surgery), those with digestive disorders like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, vegetarians (whose diets are higher in phytate that inhibits Zinc absorption), alcoholics, and those with sickle cell disease. Research indicates that 35%–45% of adults aged 60 or older have Zinc intakes below the estimated average requirement, and even when considering intakes from both food and supplements, 20%–25% of older adults still have inadequate Zinc intakes.

Are there any interactions I should be aware of when taking this supplement?

Zinc may interact with certain medications. Quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics should be taken at least 2 hours before, or 4 to 6 hours after, a Zinc supplement. Penicillamine (used for rheumatoid arthritis and Wilson disease) should be taken at least 1 hour apart from Zinc. Thiazide diuretics can increase urinary Zinc excretion by as much as 60%. Taking iron supplements containing 25 mg or more at the same time as Zinc can reduce Zinc absorption. Calcium supplements may also interact with levothyroxine and certain antibiotics if taken concurrently.
