How it works

Creatine Whey Boost Chocolatey Crisp is a 180-calorie, ready-to-eat protein bar from Designs for Health providing 15 g of whey and milk protein isolates and 2 g of creatine monohydrate per bar. It is intended for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and active adults who want a convenient, portable way to combine high-quality protein and creatine in a single, food-based format without the need for mixing powders. Each bar contains 8 g of dietary fiber and less than 1 g of sugar per serving. The formula is gluten-free, soy-free, non-GMO, and vegetarian, and contains milk. It is not appropriate for individuals with peanut allergies in the Peanut Butter flavor variant; the Chocolatey Crisp flavor is peanut-free.

The sweetener system is a meaningful differentiator for this product. Rather than relying on high-fructose corn syrup, sugar alcohols, or sucralose, the bar is sweetened primarily with allulose a rare, naturally occurring monosaccharide found in small quantities in figs, raisins, and maple syrup. Allulose is absorbed in the small intestine but not metabolized for energy, resulting in a caloric contribution close to zero and a minimal impact on postprandial blood glucose and insulin response a benefit confirmed in multiple human clinical trials. It is complemented by PhytoSweet®, a proprietary blend of rebaudioside M and steviol glycosides from stevia leaf two of the cleanest-tasting steviol glycoside fractions that largely eliminate the bitter aftertaste characteristic of lower-purity stevia extracts. The protein sources are whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate, both of which are high-leucine, fast-digesting protein sources with well-established evidence for supporting muscle protein synthesis. The formula also contains DeltaGold® tocotrienols from annatto, the same antioxidant vitamin E fraction used across the Designs for Health line.

Creatine monohydrate is one of the most extensively studied ergogenic aids in sports nutrition, supported by over 680 peer-reviewed clinical trials. Its primary mechanism is the saturation of phosphocreatine stores in skeletal muscle, which serves as a rapidly available energy reserve for the ATP-PCr system the energy pathway that powers short, high-intensity efforts such as weightlifting, sprinting, and explosive movement. By increasing phosphocreatine availability, creatine supplementation supports the ability to sustain higher power output over repeated efforts, which over time translates into greater training volume and improved lean mass accretion when combined with resistance training. Beyond its performance applications, creatine also supports cellular energy production in the brain and has been studied for its role in maintaining lean body mass during aging creatine levels in the body decline naturally with age, and muscle strength declines at an estimated 1.2 to 1.5 percent per year after age 50. The combination of creatine with high-quality whey protein in a single convenient bar makes Creatine Whey Boost a practical option for supporting both the acute performance and longer-term body composition goals of active adults.
