How it works
Gut-Brain Reset (formerly Zenbiome DUAL) is a two-capsule daily probiotic providing 10 billion CFU of two Bifidobacterium longum strains — 1714™ and 35624® — in a formula designed to address both functional gastrointestinal symptoms and the psychological stress that commonly accompanies them. It is intended for adults whose digestive concerns — including occasional abdominal discomfort, bloating, gas, diarrhea, or constipation — have a stress-related or mood-related component, and for those whose practitioners have identified dysregulation of the gut-brain axis as a contributing factor in their symptom picture. Two capsules daily with a meal is the recommended dose. The formula is free of soy, dairy, corn, gluten, and GMOs.
The two strains in this formula were selected for their complementary and clinically distinct mechanisms. B. longum 1714™ is a psychobiotic — a probiotic strain studied specifically for its effects on the gut-brain axis and central nervous system outcomes. It carries a unique surface exopolysaccharide thought to influence vagal and immune signaling pathways, and has been studied in multiple randomized controlled human trials demonstrating support for cortisol regulation, perceived stress reduction, mood enhancement, and improved sleep quality during stressful periods. B. longum 35624® is one of the most extensively researched probiotic strains in the functional GI literature, supported by over 19 years of research and more than 150 scientific publications. It adheres to intestinal epithelial cells, reinforces the gut mucosal barrier, and has been clinically shown to relieve occasional GI discomfort including abdominal distension, irregular bowel habits, gas, and bloating — symptoms that characterize the IBS symptom cluster.
The clinical rationale for combining these two strains is grounded in the well-documented bidirectional relationship between gastrointestinal symptoms and psychological state. Research consistently demonstrates that individuals with functional GI disorders such as IBS have significantly elevated rates of mood concerns, and that psychological stress exacerbates GI symptoms through HPA axis activation, altered gut motility, and changes in intestinal permeability. A published 8-week open-label study using the specific combination of B. longum 1714® and B. longum 35624® in 40 women with IBS and mild to moderate anxiety or depression found that 82% of subjects significantly improved on a composite GI symptom severity score after 8 weeks, with 66% achieving significant improvement at 4 weeks. Participants also demonstrated improvement in morning cortisol awakening response — a physiological biomarker of HPA axis regulation and stress — after 4 weeks. This simultaneous improvement in both GI and psychological outcomes in a single clinical trial provides a direct evidence base for the dual-action premise of this formula and distinguishes it from products that address only one dimension of the gut-brain relationship.
