Dr. Passaro, I took the 7 Day Colon cleanse 3 weeks ago now. It is the first product I have found that made me go to the bathroom everyday. I am 37 and all my adult life I have typically had a Bowel movement every 7-10 days. I have not found any fiber supplements that dont make me blow out like I am 5 months pregnant. I drink 1/2 of my body weight in water everyday, and I am a Personal trainer with a certified nutrition certification. So I have been thru food logs and diet checks to see what makes a difference as far as eating. I have had my thyroid tested and it showed normal activity. But with the colon cleanse, I started going on day 1 and went every day. 3 weeks later, I am better, than I was, but it is back to every 34 days. I see that you recommend only using the cleanse once every 6 months. My question to you is, would I be hurting my colon if I just took one packet everyday instead of 3? Or maybe every other day? Or what supplement that is in the pack should I buy on its own? I dont know which of the 12 pills worked, but something did. I felt great energy during the cleanse that is gone again, and I didnt need my pain pills for my neck that whole week not sure what that has to do with the cleanse, but it is the first whole week without pain pills in 3 years I know b/c it was my first cleanse I can do another in 5 weeks, which I will do. But will I harm myself doing a packet a day? Thank you,

Hi Melanie, Thank you for your inquiry and feed back on the 7 day colon cleanse.

I am so happy you had such a good response and felt better while taking it. Unfortunately, it is not a product suitable for long term use even at low doses.

The herbs used in that formula are in a category called stimulant laxatives. Although they are useful for short term colon cleanses and intermittent constipation, if they are used on a long term basis they can create dependency and prevent your colon from eliminating properly when discontinued.

For this reason prefer to use Magnesium citrate for daily support of bowel motility. Magnesium falls under the category of an osmotic laxative, which does not have the potential for dependancy. Plus it works great for the majority of people.

Here is a link to our Vitabase Mag citrate.

I would start with 3 capsules at night before bed (600mg) for 3 nights in a row. If you bowels are not moving daily after the 3 days I suggest you increase the dose by 1 capsule daily every 2-3 days until you find a dose that results in daily bowel movements. Once you find that dose you can take it daily for as long as you like.

The great thing about magnesium is that it supports restful sleep, helps the body produce energy and supports a balanced nervous system. Also note that you don’t have to take it before bed. You can take it anytime of day, with or without food. You can take it all at once or divide the dose throughout the day.

The only people that need to be concerned about taking magnesium are those with severe kidney disease. Otherwise, it is one of the safest nutrients on the market. If you get loose stool or your bowels become too active, just reduce the dose. I hope that was helpful and feel free to report back on how you did! Hopefully it is a tip you can recommend to your clients in the future! Warm regards,
