Dolor posparto se refiere a los calambres y molestias que las mujeres experimentan en los días posteriores al parto mientras el útero se contrae y regresa a su tamaño previo al embarazo. Estas contracciones, conocidas como involución uterina, ayudan a comprimir los vasos sanguíneos para prevenir el sangrado excesivo y expulsar el tejido placentario restante o los loquios (secreción vaginal posparto).
El dolor posparto es más notable en mujeres que han tenido múltiples embarazos (multíparas), ya que el útero puede tardar más en contraerse eficientemente. La molestia a menudo se intensifica durante la lactancia debido a la liberación de oxitocina, una hormona que estimula las contracciones uterinas.
Aunque este proceso es natural y esencial para la recuperación, puede causar calambres leves a moderados similares a los cólicos menstruales, que duran varios días después del parto. La intensidad generalmente alcanza su punto máximo en los primeros 2–3 días posparto.
