Hipocondría
Sinopsis

Vitamin A contributes to antioxidant defense through both direct and indirect mechanisms. As a lipid-soluble molecule, retinol acts as a chain-breaking antioxidant within cell membranes and lipoproteins, inhibiting lipid peroxidation. More importantly, its active metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) regulates the expression of antioxidant-related genes—including via NRF2 pathway activation—rather than primarily scavenging free radicals directly. Evidence from dietary studies is supportive but supplementation trials (e.g., CARET) have shown mixed or even adverse outcomes in specific high-risk populations.
- Tiamina (vitamina B1)Científico
Thiamine has direct antioxidant properties and supports antioxidant defense by promoting glutathione production and maintaining the NADPH-generating pentose phosphate pathway via transketolase. Deficiency accelerates oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and tissue damage.
- riboflavina (vitamina B2)Científico
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a well-documented scientific contributor to antioxidant defense, primarily through its coenzyme form FAD, which is an obligate cofactor for glutathione reductase — the enzyme that regenerates reduced (active) glutathione from its oxidized form. Riboflavin deficiency measurably impairs glutathione reductase activity and has been associated with increased oxidative stress. Multiple reviews of human and animal studies confirm riboflavin protects against lipid peroxidation and reperfusion oxidative injury, and a clinical intervention in Crohn's disease patients demonstrated improved redox status after supplementation.
- Niacina (vitamina B3)Científico
Niacin is the dietary precursor to NAD+ and NADP+, coenzymes that are central to cellular antioxidant defense, including the regeneration of glutathione and support of antioxidant enzyme activity (SOD, catalase, GPx). Supplementation restores the cellular NAD+ pool, attenuates oxidative stress, and has been confirmed in animal and human mechanistic studies to enhance antioxidant enzyme activity.
- vitamina CCientífico
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is one of the most extensively studied water-soluble antioxidants in human biology. It directly scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) in aqueous cellular compartments and plasma, and regenerates the antioxidant form of vitamin E at membrane interfaces. Multiple human trials demonstrate that supplementation raises antioxidant capacity and reduces biomarkers of oxidative damage, though clinical endpoints (e.g., mortality, disease prevention) show more mixed results. The evidence base is substantial, mechanistically well-characterized, and supported by peer-reviewed systematic reviews and PMC-indexed clinical research.
- vitamina ECientífico
Vitamin E, primarily as alpha-tocopherol, is the body's principal fat-soluble, chain-breaking antioxidant, operating within cell membranes to scavenge peroxyl radicals and interrupt lipid peroxidation chain reactions. Human supplementation studies confirm that it raises plasma antioxidant concentrations and reduces biomarkers of oxidative stress, particularly in individuals already experiencing elevated oxidative burden. However, large-scale randomized controlled trials have produced inconsistent results regarding clinical disease endpoints, and its benefit in healthy individuals with low baseline oxidative stress remains uncertain.
- WasabiCientífico
Wasabi isothiocyanates, particularly 6-MSITC, are potent activators of the Nrf2/Keap1-ARE antioxidant response pathway, inducing a suite of cytoprotective enzymes including HO-1, ALDH2, glutathione S-transferase, and other phase II detoxification enzymes. This has been confirmed in hepatocyte, neuronal, and in vivo models. 6-MSITC is structurally analogous to sulforaphane, one of the best-characterized dietary Nrf2 inducers.
